life lately

It’s been a while since I’ve written – two years, actually. That’s not to say that I don’t have any drafts waiting for me to finish (there are 12, I just checked). I’ve been meaning to write, and of course, the week I’m turning 33, I’m feeling more inspired to write…and publish.

What’s wild is how much has changed since I last wrote. Now I’m working in an office doing the 9-5 grind, I’m speaking more Spanish than English, and, of course, I’ve traveled more!

I can’t believe it’s been five years since I moved to Madrid. It should be less shocking (it’s 9:52 PM, and the sun is still shining). It feels the same as when I lived in NYC; it just never sunk in that this is home. Madrid is home.

I’m feeling more at home in my apartment that I’m finally renting by myself and creating a routine that works for me. From kickboxing classes at 7 AM to reading a bit every day after work, I feel like I’ve managed to prioritize myself and my peace in a way that I never could in NYC. I do really love NYC, but I was always out and about, running marathons, meeting friends, working, and signing up for classes. There was always something.

Maybe it’s me getting older, maybe it’s my life here in Madrid – whatever the change is, I’m a fan.

So, here’s to another birthday celebrated while living in Madrid, to loving my apartment, to enjoying these long, sunny evenings, and to kickboxing. And hopefully, to the next three years of growth and adventure!
